Reconstruct our Economy

The federal governments handling of the economy during the Pandemic Shutdown proves that the 6th Congressional Districts businesses are not a priority. Many of our small businesses were shut out of the emergency funding. This crisis has shown how much we rely on, but do not protect, the least secure workers.

We have to rebuild our economy with the focus of recovery led by our Main Streets small businesses. And it should be done with full appreciation for the critical role of the American worker, the heart of our countrys economic wellness.

We must use the real-time lessons that were seeing in the for-profit hospital models to rethink our understanding of public investments.  We must become a governance dedicated to building an environmentally-conscious, public-health focused, and just economy.

Prioritizing Main Street

The Small Business Administration needs to do a much better job and also needs to make more money available for start-ups and main street businesses to help bolster, foster, and build more sustainable and economically viable communities.

Affordable Housing

After a steady decline in new public housing over the past two decades, that neglect has now become all too clear. We need to develop more options for seniors and veterans, for the disabled, the homeless, as well as transitional housing. We need to rewrite Housing and Urban Development public housing formulas so our district’s smaller cities and towns qualify for aid.

Those federal dollars must go toward housing built in partnership with local towns so they become their communities’ source of pride, not just a target number that must be met. Congress needs to increase community development block grants (CDBG), and rehabilitate banking and lender laws.

A Tax Code that Works for the Most Vulnerable

The most recent tax reform did nothing for the middle class or our senior citizens. Families making a combined 200K will continue to see reductions in their tax burdens. We must take care of middle class America.

Congress also needs to bring back the standard property tax exemption. We must create tax breaks for senior citizens that can alleviate the issues they face, such as exorbitant prescription costs and property taxes. We need tax incentives and tax code alterations for individuals and families on fixed incomes who wish to remain in their homes.
